Key 1950’s style: Casual Chic

hello my lovelies,

As summer is coming up, I decided to cover a casual chic look for my next Key 1950’s style. Think about Audrey Hepburn, who managed to look classy and stylish even when casually dressed for strolling around Europe.

Many people think that 1950s style is being dressed up everyday, and always being preened to within an inch of your life. But that really isn’t the case. A casual chic look is easy to obtain and is perfect for everyday wear.

Flat shoes, especially in a ballet slipper style would feature heavily and add to the simple look that we are going for. A simple but cute blouse or shirt would often be worn with cigarette pants or a full cotton skirt. No petticoat would be worn in these circumstances, that was too dressy.

The cigarette pants would be high waisted, and a slim leg making them perfect to tuck in a blouse or Breton top. Minimal accessories made this casual chic look fresh and classic.

Hair and make up were also kept simple. A boyish crop is an excellent choice like Miss Hepburn sported, but longer hair could also be swept back into a high ponytail too.

A fresh, look for the skin would have been achieved with a light ducting of powder, brows were kept neat with nude eyeshadows and a touch of mascara to slightly accentuate the eyes. I do love a red lip as you all know, but there’s also something wonderful about popping on some tinted lip balm and heading out for adventures.

Although this look wasn’t the most popular in the 1950s and Audrey Hepburn was considered to be something of a fashion outsider, there’s something so effortless and simple when it comes to her casual chic look I simply had to feature it. As spring is coming up, this look is perfect for slightly cooler days ensuring that you look wonderful all year through.

I hope you enjoyed this style focus, as always if you have any articles or styles you’d like me to feature then just get in touch.

In my news, a lot has been going on in the last few weeks and I have many exciting times ahead. My beloved has a new job, and although we don’t see each other as much we are still having a lot of fun together and talk everyday. I’m thinking of doing some relationship advice articles, so keep an eye out for those. My career is also going well, and more news on that when I have it. It’s been a hectic couple of weeks, but I’m back in full force now my dears.

Until next time,
