Monthly Summary – May 2021

Hello kittens,

Well, another month has flown by and I’ve not been doing a lot apart from working and sleeping. Actually, I fib a little there. We have been watching some great shows and movies recently.

I did splurge and watched Cruella on Disney +. I’ve always felt she was one of the most underrated style icons in the disney world, especially as she’s a designer. But this movie didn’t disappoint. If you haven’t seen it, then I won’t spoil it but there are some looks in there that I can’t wait to dig deeper into to share a “get the look” post with you. I would have to do the older movies as well as this newer one because I think they all seem to bring something very different to how she looks. One is older Cruella so it’s natural that her style would change over time.

We also binge watched the Halston series on Netflix. This isn’t something Mr Delightful would usually enjoy – but honestly, Ewan Mcgregor as the man himself was amazing. Sometimes, I even forgot that I was watching a dramatisation and felt as though I was really there. It simply is wonderful, and really did open my eyes to how fabulous the late 60s and early 70s were. I do see a lot of 70s style being “in” again so this was perfect timing by Netflix (isn’t it always!).

Other than sitting indoors and watching tv, I have been aiming to get healthier. I’ve been making so many pretty new outfits recently and I am upset because now I am unable to fit into them. Which isn’t the best feeling. I am always one to try to be positive and do something if I can so I’ve been trying out some HIIT workouts. High Intensity Interval Training is a way to cram lots of energy into short sharp bursts to get the best out of your workout time. Even though we are still being v cautious with how much we go out, I still can’t seem to find the time to dedicate an hour or more to exercising. So two of these 20 -30 min routines are super fun and I fit them in twice a day. They must be doing something as when I finish my face is a completely different colour to the rest of me. I am of course naturally quite pale but my face looks like a tomato when I’m done!

In addition to the big scary workouts, Mr Delightful and I have been heading out on walks to the local parks when the weather is dry. May has been a bit of a bust for sunshine, but as I sit writing this, June is looking very promising indeed. There really is something quite lovely about strolling around the greenery with your favourite person with the sun shining isn’t there? I had almost forgotten how splendid Cheltenham really is and I have fallen in love all over again with the place.

The dressmaking is still happening, I have started to re-produce the older patterns (I have recently acquired some from the early 40s) and will be tracing onto new paper, photocopying the instructions and the storing the old pattern and documents in an acid free comic bag. They really are in pretty good condition and I want to protect them for the future. I also need to transfer some amazing catalogues of patterns from France and Germany. These are so wonderful that it really needs a separate post to show you all!

Must dash, but as always, keep in touch with me or comment if you want me to cover anything. Otherwise I will just carry on as I am.
